Floor 1000

The Hibernaculum

As dictated by u/OneTripleZero, this floor is The Hibernaculum. As follows is the description they provided:
“The 1000th floor of the Spiral Tower is a single, massive circular room, the floor and ceiling of which are composed of countless interlocking silver-white metal plates that are joined so seamlessly as to appear to be a pattern etched into metal rather than individual pieces. The plates create an inward—spiral pattern (with the two surface’s spirals being in opposing directions) which converges at the room’s center where a large, round pillar connects ceiling to floor.
The pillar is as wide as it is tall, and is accented by a ring of glass seated flush into its circumference. The spiraling plates of the floor and ceiling extend down the pillar to this glass ring. Behind the glass is an almost depthless black, which at times appears to be something underlying the glass, and at others, a void. Small lights, no larger than particles of dust, drift up and down behind the glass at varying speeds, moving without a sound.
The room is well-lit, but the source of the light is indiscernible. If studied long enough, the light can be seen to very slowly fluctuate in brightness, though not enough to be of much impact. The outer wall of the room is composed of glass panels, each one reaching from floor to ceiling, with each end precisely matching a plate in the pattern it joins to. The panels are very finely textured and cool to the touch, with a dim opal white light emanating from inside. This light fluctuates over the same period as the room itself, however the panels do so in sequence rather than in unison. One complete cycle of the room’s ambient light corresponds to a complete sequence of the panels’ flux around the room.
The Hibernaculum has no entrance or exit, and once inside it is impossible to tell which cardinal direction you would be facing as the repeating nature of the room’s architecture is flawless. This obfuscates the room’s most startling feature: its interior appears to be 720 degrees, in that one must walk around the room twice to return to the place they started. How this is possible is currently unknown, however testing that it is real and not illusory (by using a rope to measure the circumference of the center pillar, for instance) will reveal it to be so.
The room has other unnatural properties. The metal that the room is made of cannot be dented, scratched, bent, or otherwise deformed. It is always a constant, cool temperature to the touch and is pleasurably smooth. The glass of the central ring and outside wall panels is similarly unbreakable. While in the room, items such as timepieces, compasses, radios and cell phones do not work.
As there is no entrance or exit, it cannot be entered from the floors above and below it, and the only standard method of accessing it is via TWIST. However it has no TWIST booth, and so entering this way will strand you in the room until you are removed. All who are in the TWIST when it arrives in the Hibernaculum will find themselves standing by the outer wall, beside whichever panel happens to be brightest lit at their time of arrival.
Anything brought to the room and left behind will be gone when you return. Usually, items abandoned in this manner will eventually reappear somewhere else in the tower, most often in the Lost and Found at the Customer Service desk in the spIKEA, though nobody there will be able to recall who or what dropped them off. Any markings made to the room’s interior, such as with paint or ink, will not be present if you return.
The Hibernaculum can only be exited in one way: by falling asleep. When someone inside falls asleep, they will not wake from this sleep until everyone else who came with them falls asleep as well. While asleep, the individual will experience vivid dreams which feature a montage of their favorite memories, of things they want to do and be, and visions of inspiration. Often, sleepers will report being visited by lost loved ones, and those who fall asleep in a group may have their companions feature in their dreams. These dreams are emotionally powerful and can be joyous, fulfilling, nostalgic, bittersweet, or sometimes sad, but never shocking or scary. Upon waking, the dreamer will find themselves either in their personal residence in the tower, or if lacking one, in a room in the hotel on floor 209. Memories of the dreams are initially very strong but fade rapidly, so it is advised to write down anything you would want to remember.
The floor definitionally does not have any permanent residents. Though I am the claimant, I would describe myself as the “current, permanent caretaker” – the floor does not have an owner, nor has it ever had one.”
