The following description has been provided by u/PersistentInquirer:
Floor 1112, or Franksgard, is a floor that is similar in size to the state of Rhode Island. It is a fairly densely populated floor, especially around its major city to the south, but it is still possible to find empty spaces with a short drive.
Franksgard is an island surrounded by water. The climate is colder, and temperatures do not exceed 65F (18C). The terrain includes mountains, coniferous forests, and beaches. There are no swamps to be found. The beaches are slightly anomalous in that their temperatures (and water temperatures) are able to exceed 65F in a small radius.
Wind, fog, and precipitation are fairly common in Franksgard, and the winds have mystical, almost cryogenic, properties that greatly extend the lives of the floor’s inhabitants. Exposure does not wear off quickly, allowing the inhabitants to travel to other floors without fear of out-aging any friends / loved-ones who do not accompany them on their travels. Many have described feelings of peace, vitality, and clarity after exposure to the winds. Residents also require less sleep (4 hours) as a result.
The island’s most well known indigenous creatures are the mysterious “Strudel-Meisters” (Also known as Swirl Masters). They are reclusive, and unfortunately most of what is known about them only comes from ancient legend (RIP my old accountu/AgentFrank24"> u/AgentFrank24). There are also some large sea-creatures that lurk in the deep (there’s always a bigger fish) and will attack the island occasionally. They are repulsed by a government agency that is described below.
Very large waves are often seen on the island’s east coast and further out in the water, but they do not cause significant damage to populated areas or notable erosion thanks to the shielding mountains in that area (although the waves do occasionally put fishermen in a bind).
There are two natural phenomena that are not found in Franksgard: rust and dust. As a result of the unique properties of the water, metal does not rust, and as a result of the winds dust is unable to accumulate.
Government:
Franksgard’s government is that of a constitutional monarchy. The senate is capable of governing by itself, but the monarchs, referred to as Directors often give their two cents as well. The current leaders are Director Frank and Director Amy who share equal power.
Directors are also responsible for heading and taking an active role in their respective industries. Director Frank governs criminal investigations and heads The Agency. He performs his necessary duties as a leader but likes to lead from the front, still participating directly in investigations and other functions. Director Amy functions as the Baker in Chief! She also runs the state of the art Franksgard Animal Rescue.
The chief investigative body of Franksgard is simply known as “The Agency”. The Agency investigates all crime in Franksgard and also supports other law enforcement agencies across the Tower. Its other responsibilities include search and rescue efforts (remember the fishermen dealing with the waves?), repelling attacking sea creatures, psy-ops ( r/Taylor4POTUS ), information collection and analysis, and investigating the anomalous.
Economy:
Franksgard is regarded for its film industry. The films are a substantial money-maker for the floor and are distributed all across the Tower. Literature and theatrical productions are also big, but not to the extent of the films.
Franksgard also has minor industries including fishing and logging. Sushi-grade salmon, yellowtail, and tuna are found in abundance in the waters, along with crab and shrimp. In addition to lumber used in some areas of Tower construction, harvested wood is also refined into sturdy wooden furniture. There is also a population of farmers in Franksgard, and their most common products are chicken, cocoa, wheat, rye, kale, beans, potatoes, and berries.
All businesses are open 24 hours a day.
Food:
Junior’s: Run by my dad, serves a variety of homemade dishes including waffles, hearty kale stew, chili, oven roasted chicken drumsticks, and various pastas.
The Captain’s Market: A remarkably clean seafood market that is the perfect place to find all kinds of fresh fish and crustaceans. You can also find prepared foods like clam chowder or visit the sushi bar.
The Franksgard Inn: Known for its thin crust pizza, the Franksgard Inn is a great place to sit down and have a nice date. You can also sit at the bar, catch a sports game, and have a drink. Lodging offered.
Bailey Bros Bakery: A bakery with a wide assortment of baked goods, from donuts and fritters to lembas bread. Also serves coffee, tea, and other cafe drinks.
Amy’s: Literally the best bakery you’ve ever been to. It blows Bailey Bros Bakery away. You can always hear Pentatonix or Broadway songs (especially Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton) playing over the speakers. You can sit, get some work done, and enjoy a nice treat and a cup of coffee. If you like cats there’s a separate seating area where a number of them wander freely.
Dex’s Drop-in Drinks: Run by Dexter Jettster, serves liquids ranging from blue milk to berry smoothies.
Fast-food: Franksgard is home to two unique fast-food “restaurants”: McTacoKing’s and BuckNuts. Serving all kinds of unhealthy options, McTacoKing’s is your one stop shop for food you might get from McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, or Wendy’s. BuckNuts serves anything you might get from Dunkin’ Donuts or Starbucks.
There is one McTacoKing’s and one BuckNuts in downtown Franksgard along with an additional BuckNuts at FU.
We also have street vendors identical to those in Manhattan that sell super pretzels and dirty-water-dogs.
All of the above eateries (both food and fast-food) offer both indoor and outdoor seating year round.
Life:
The most popular vehicle on the island is a hydrogen-powered convertible Hummer. If you take a drive on one of the seaside highways it’s likely you’ll see many of them speeding along with the top down while blasting pop or alt-rock music (the island’s two most popular genres, although they are by no means the only ones).
Traditional Franksgard delicacies include mustard sandwiches on rye, thin-crust pizza, cookie bars, fresh sushi, exquisite chocolates, thick oatmeal, berry flavored everything, chili, hearty kale stew, gnocchi, pasta with bolognese sauce, shepherds pie, chicken salads, and more.
Franksgard University (regrettably abbreviated to FU) is a center of intellectual thought for the island. It has renowned programs in investigations and law, psychology, medicine, engineering, language, writing, and philosophy. Others exist, but these are why people come to FU.
Based at FU, the Steve Schaubs Library is open to all residents of Franksgard (non-residents can get a day pass as often as they like) and houses a collection of the best media available. It also has a printing press for amateur authors and offers all sorts of how-to classes in its highly versatile workshop space.
The Menapini Museum of Arts and Sciences is home to anything that “belongs in a museum”. Located a short distance from FU, students and non-students alike often come to visit, relax, and learn. Virtual and AI assisted tours are currently under construction.
