Floor 184

The Wildflower Floor

As dictated by u/mckenner1122, this floor is the Wildflower floor. The following description has been provided by them:

“When opening the door
Of room One Eighty Four
Whomever reads this next Hastily written text
Shall inherit a room
Full of flowers in bloom

Wildflowers that spawn here
Daubs of color and cheer
Full of magic, you see
Home to the bird and bee
Residents of the last
Guest who stayed this week past

If you are in 184, please take a moment and share three native flowering plants to your present home. If you don’t know what’s native or not, take a moment and research! Bonus points if you know what benefits they provide your ecosystem.

The first plants in 184 are Native to the Midwest USA, Great Lakes region.

Purple Coneflowers, Wild Yellow Sunflowers, Orange Butterfly Weed.

”Would You Like To Know More?”

• Echinacea. Also known as coneflower. Beautiful plant, comes in many colors. I grow white, pink, purple, and a funky orange hybrid. They feed birds and bees all spring and summer. All parts are edible to humans, from petal to root. There is solid peer reviewed research that shows echinaceacan help reduce cold and flu symptoms.
• Helianthus Tuberosis. Wild Sunflower. If you know it, you know it’s edible root, the Jerusalem Artichoke (which is neither from Jerusalem nor an Artichoke) I love their bright yellow faces.
• Butterfly Weed – Despite being absolutely gorgeous- is a milkweed and is important for pollinators. This juicy orange native packs a colorful punch that comes back every year if you grow it in the right spot.”
