Floor 816

longtr52’s Floor

Floor 816 is pretty much an open floor layout, save for the elevator and stairs, which both are camouflaged so that one can appear to see from one side to the other. (“They do it with mirrors,” it’s said…well, they’re not wrong.) On the floor just outside the elevator is a mosaic of a handsome man with blond hair and a wry smile on his face. Without even knowing, one seems to recognize that this is someone who is no longer around.
There is a space with a huge 100″ TV screen and every gaming console one might desire. Headsets for those who want them, or with the press of a button on the comfortable sectional couch, discreetly placed surround sound speakers. Embedded in the large square white coffee table in front of the couch is a brass plaque with “BMR 1974-2023” inscribed on it.
One may notice the quiet humming that is never too loud, but constant. Apparently the floor above rotates, it’s said, and the machinery that provides that slow turning produces the hum. In many ways, that humming is an unexpected white noise that tends to keep these spaces’ sounds contained.
